A shocking report from the Daily Mail website: link is below.  What this reaffirms is the need for external assessment of a situation before an exorcism.  The Church only proceeds in extreme circumstances and with external support for the ritual.  Conducting an exorcism upon someone within a situation to which you have ties is a grave error, in this case – fatal.  Belief’s regarding exorcism and deity aside, the family should have sought help.  There were a myriad of reasons that could have explained their mothers behaviour, possession merely a slim chance amongst them.

The 41-year-old woman died from her injuries when her South Korean relatives tried to smother her during the ritual at the Intercontinental Hotel in Frankfurt in December last year.
